Hip Homestead was proudly featured in the 2007 Park City Showcase of Homes and was spotlighted in Utah Style & Design magazine, celebrating its exceptional craftsmanship, unique character, and innovative blend of tradition and modern living.
We’re proud of this custom home design and build that blends the warmth of a historic homestead with the comforts of modern living. Built by our founder, Todd Evans, for his own family of seven, this 9,000-square-foot residence in the foothills outside Park City captures Blackdog Builders’ signature approach: timeless craftsmanship, smart planning, and materials that tell a story.
Working in collaboration with architect Montgomery Still, we used techniques and textures inspired by 19th-century Utah cabins—think dovetail-jointed log siding, weathered wood, rusted steel, and hand-cut stone—to create a structure that feels rooted in the past yet lives beautifully in the present.
Designed with intention for a large, active family, the home includes private bedroom suites for teenage sons and daughters, an expansive office, and a mix of shared and quiet spaces that encourage both togetherness and independence. Interior designers Karla Rigert and Brock Stauffer layered in bold contemporary accents, balancing the rustic shell with rich textures, custom furniture, and curated finishes.
This project is a testament to what we do best: honoring the history of place while building homes that feel both personal and enduring.
