Historic Home Design + Remodel + Addition // Old Town // Park City, Utah

A historic Park City home was thoughtfully expanded and reimagined to create a fresh, modern residence while preserving the character of the original structure. A carefully designed addition provides more space for contemporary living, while original exposed brick, clean architectural lines, and custom steel details create a natural connection between old and new.

Throughout the home, warm wood tones, abundant natural light, and refined modern finishes bring warmth and sophistication to the interiors. The result is a home that feels distinctly current while remaining rooted in its Old Town Park City history.

FEATURES: Historic home expansion. Original exposed brick details. Open-concept kitchen & living. Custom steel beams & millwork. Steel & glass architectural details.

The Transformation

Working within the city’s strict historic preservation guidelines, our team preserved the original facade while fully reimagining the interiors. We opened up the layout, exposed the original brick posts, and incorporated striking new elements like 3,500-pound steel trusses and a steel-and-glass staircase—all installed without disturbing the exterior envelope.

Rich Textures

The main level honors the home’s roots with rich textures, from walnut cabinetry to slat-wood walls and exposed steel. Upstairs, a sleek black addition clad in charred Japanese Cypress (Shou Sugi Ban) houses modern living spaces, including a guest suite, custom bunk room, and a third-floor entertaining lounge that opens to a rooftop patio with a double-sided fireplace.

Details…

No detail was overlooked—from a bathroom backsplash made from the homeowner’s son’s repurposed racing skis, to handcrafted finishes by our in-house carpentry team. The result is a collaborative, detail-rich renovation that celebrates the home’s unique story while delivering all the comforts of contemporary living.

Iron Mountain Design + Remodel // Park City, Utah

Routine Rustic to Mountain Marvel

Once a dated 1990s home, the residence was completely reimagined as a warm, character-filled mountain retreat.” Organic textures and natural materials are layered with unexpected color and playful details, creating a home that feels collected, personal, and distinctly Park City.

Rustic white oak cabinetry, handmade tile, reclaimed wood, and Venetian plaster bring warmth and texture throughout, while bold lighting, mixed metals, and a custom blue-grey Ilve range add a fresh, modern edge. The result is an inviting mountain home that feels both timeless and full of personality.

Design Highlights

Design highlights include handmade zellige tile, reclaimed wood mantels, rustic white oak cabinetry, Venetian plaster, and a showstopping ILVE Italian range in a custom blue-grey finish—paired with mixed metals and bold lighting choices. These elements come together to form a home that is refined yet full of character, balancing modern sensibilities with timeless warmth.

Remote Collaboration

Because the homeowners live out of state, the project was completed entirely remotely. Using our online construction software and collaborative design tools, our team provided weekly updates, renderings, mood boards, and digital plans—delivering a seamless, stress-free process from start to finish.

Design-Build Approach

This home is a true example of Blackdog Builders’ integrated design-build approach—where craftsmanship, creativity, and communication come together to create a sanctuary that’s not just beautiful, but deeply livable.
